We are seeking a Scientist experienced in organic synthesis, route selection, and process optimization to join a team dedicated to the development of liquid-phase processes to manufacture phosphorodiamidate morpholino oligonucleotides. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of drug substance control strategy and process characterization workstreams. This is a hands-on position with responsibilities that require daily lab work, designing and performing organic transformation, as well as product purification and isolation in the lab. The lab experimentation is to be carried out with scale-down version of manufacturing footprint as well as in-situ analysis tools. The position will report to the Sr Director of Oligonucleotides development at Avidity and be a part of Avidity's growing CMC/Technical Operations team.

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry with at least 0-2 years of industrial experience or a Master’s degree in Chemistry with at least 10 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in organic synthesis and process development.
  • Prior experience with various laboratory techniques including LC-MS/MS, HPLC, and NMR.
  • Proven ability to thrive and enable success in a cross-functional and collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to facilitate constructive, expedient problem-solving.
  • Ability to multi-task, manage conflict, and work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Execute experiments enabling the determination of processing conditions for the manufacture of phosphorodiamidate morpholino oligonucleotides in liquid phase.
  • Assess various routes of synthesis to prepare phosphorodiamidates morpholino oligonucleotides, including via fragment assembly.
  • Determine data-based path forward to optimize and lock manufacturing processes.
  • Understand first principles of chromatography, UF/DF unit operation, and lyophilization and be able to carry out those unit operations in the laboratory.
  • Analyze in-process control and isolated product collected samples via chromatography, mass spectroscopy, and NMR techniques.
  • Perform critical review of manufacturing documentation.
  • Accurately document experiments in electronic laboratory notebooks and author technical summaries and study reports.
  • Present data and provide updates in team and CMC meetings.
  • Ensure work is conducted in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements (FDA, EMA, ICH), GMP principles (as applicable), and internal quality systems.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Analytical Development, Quality, and Project Management teams.

Benefits

  • The base salary range for this role is $145,000 to $160,000. The final compensation will be commensurate with such factors as relevant experience, skillset, internal equity and market factors.
