About The Position

The Scientist - Medicinal Chemistry role at Sanofi involves designing and synthesizing small molecule targets to accelerate drug discovery and development. The position requires a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry principles, with a focus on collaboration and innovation to address complex scientific challenges. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of clinical candidates and engage in discussions that influence the direction of lead series, all while adhering to safety and compliance standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with minimum 6 years of relevant research experience in an academic or biopharmaceutical setting OR Master's Degree with minimum 3 years of relevant research experience OR PhD with 0-2 years post-doctoral work.
  • Recognized as a technical expert with growing scientific and subject matter expertise.
  • Emerging track record as a contributor providing quality science for publications, presentations, and patents.

Responsibilities

  • Design and synthesize small molecule targets to drive programs to clinical candidate nomination.
  • Use reaction and reagent databases to select effective techniques/routes to maximize productivity.
  • Proficiently use analytical techniques for structural characterization and interpret NMR spectra.
  • Champion new chemistry techniques, reagents, and methodology in discovery chemistry.
  • Fully understand SAR around own work and prioritize based on emerging data.
  • Collaborate with team members to design target compounds addressing potency, selectivity, DMPK, pharmacology, and safety.
  • Learn from literature and meetings to solve problems.
  • Determine relevance of patent search results and assess patentability of new targets.
  • Actively participate in medicinal chemistry discussions and communicate science clearly.
  • Operate in the lab safely and efficiently according to HSE guidelines.
  • Adapt to changes and challenges in a productive manner.
  • Act as an ambassador for the department and attend meetings to stay current with literature.
