Location/Division Specific Information Bedford, MA / Bioproduction, Purification R&D, NPI/Customs Discover Impactful Work: Within the Purification Business of Thermo Fisher Scientific we are searching for a scientist to support our NPI/Custom Purification Solutions program for development of new purification products serving the biotech and bio-pharmaceutical industries. This position is ideally suited to a bench scientist with experience in chromatographic purification, downstream processing, and high-throughput screening who thrives in a fast-paced team environment. Experience or understanding in the area of product development for bioprocess purification is a strong plus. A Day in the Life: Innovate new chromatographic purification media that meet customer specifications. Design, optimize, and execute experiments to rapidly test several prototypes that meet performance specifications. Develop and perform analytical methods relevant to downstream processing Apply statistical tools and design of experiments (DOE) optimally and efficiently to evaluate designs, optimize process and understand process tolerance to ensure new product developed with appropriate design control and quality attributes. Draft process SOPs and partner with cross function groups to transfer process into the manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field; MS degree with 3+ years of experience; BS degree with 5+ years of experience.
  • Laboratory experience involving chromatography, high-throughput screening, and other downstream purification techniques
  • Experience delivering project completion to timeline.
  • Teamwork experience including sharing data, problem-solving, and collaborating.
  • Knowledgeable in at least one of the following areas: chromatography, downstream process development, analytical science, and resin product development.
  • Skilled at written and verbal communication, documenting and sharing experimental methods, data, outcomes, and conclusions to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to identify issues and adapt experiments on-the-fly, a skill facilitated by strong attention to detail and a willingness to ask for help.
  • Ability and interest in learning to operate laboratory synthesis and characterization tools such as chromatography, spectroscopy, surface area and pore analysis.
  • Skilled at prioritization and navigating ambiguity with a positive demeanor.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or understanding in the area of product development for bioprocess purification is a strong plus.
