The Scientist III - Bioprocess Modeling and Simulation role at Thermo Fisher Scientific involves developing and optimizing bioprocesses for the manufacture of viral vectors. This position focuses on advanced modeling techniques, statistical analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to enhance bioprocess understanding and drive innovative solutions in the biopharma industry.

  • Develop and refine chemometric models, chromatography process simulations, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models.
  • Apply robust statistical methodologies to analyze complex datasets and guide decision-making in bioprocess design and control.
  • Utilize Python and R to design algorithms, perform statistical analyses, and implement predictive models for bioprocess optimization.
  • Conduct molecular simulations using tools such as PyMOL and apply bioinformatics approaches to solve complex biological problems.
  • Work closely with upstream, downstream, and analytical development lab teams to integrate modeling insights into experimental design and process improvement.
  • Translate complex modeling outputs into actionable insights through clear visualization and effective communication to stakeholders.
  • B.S. in (bio)Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field with 5 years of experience; Masters with 2 years of industrial experience; or Ph.D.
  • Prior experience in modeling applications within the biopharma industry is a strong plus.
  • Solid knowledge of statistical analysis and experience applying these principles in a biopharma or related industry setting is a strong plus.
  • Prior experience with building Raman spectroscopy models for process monitoring and characterization of biologics or gene therapies.
  • Familiarity with MSTAR CFD modeling software for advanced fluid dynamics simulations.
  • Hands-on experience in upstream and/or downstream bioprocess laboratory environments.
  • Strong understanding of bioprocess engineering principles and unit operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
