About The Position

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Genentech, a member of the Roche Group! The Opportunity We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Scientist II to join the Nanotechnology Formulations group. This role will support our exciting non-viral nucleic acid delivery programs. The successful candidate will have high attention to detail and possess expertise in lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulation process, formulation optimization for nucleic acid delivery, and basic LNP characterization skills.

Requirements

  • B.S. with 3+ years of industry experience or M.S. with 2+ years of experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
  • Formulation experience: 2+ years of hands-on laboratory experience with lipid nanoparticle formulation work.
  • Experience utilizing analytical methods such as dynamic light scattering (DLS), Zeta potential measurement, and Ribogreen quantification of encapsulated nucleic acids.
  • Experience with advanced analytical software (Graph Pad Prism and/or JMP).
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with conjugated LNPs and high-throughput LNP formulation preparation is preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience in tangential flow filtration (TFF) and formulation scale up is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of formulation scientists to synthesize and characterize lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) encapsulating nucleic acids for in vitro/in vivo studies.
  • Carry out Design of Experiment (DoE) based screening campaigns directed toward establishing LNP composition or process.
  • Support and execute early formulation development activities (cryoprotection, scale-up, etc.) for lipid nanoparticles.
  • Interface directly with other functional teams to support formulation requests.
  • Maintain detailed records documenting formulation activities and results.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data.
  • Share responsibility for basic lab management activities (supply ordering, autoclaving, routine buffer preparation, etc.)
