Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, which includes a drug screen. Discover Impactful Work: We are seeking a highly self-motivated Scientist II to join our R&D team in Carlsbad! This exciting opportunity will support the development of next-generation sequencing assays for use in clinical laboratories. Responsibilities will include sample preparation, instrument calibration and operation, data analysis & troubleshooting, study planning, and reporting (writing protocols and reports). A Day in the Life: Working with a multidisciplinary technology team for the development of next-generation sequencing assays that will be used in clinical laboratories. Responsibilities will include sample preparation, instrument operation, data analysis, and reporting/presentation. Development of diagnostic assays (product verification and validation) that comply with various regulatory standards. Up to 50% of the time will be spent servicing instruments (e.g., preventative maintenance and performance qualifications).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3+ years of experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a similar discipline in a diagnostic assay development setting is required (equivalent combinations of education and relevant work experience may be considered).
  • Strong skills in molecular biology (including DNA, RNA, and protein handling, PCR, qPCR, NGS, quantification methods).
  • Knowledge of basic data analysis and interpretation (proficient in Microsoft Office and JMP).
  • Solid understanding and knowledge of genomics.
  • Ability to follow molecular biology protocols and strictly adhere to all steps.
  • Be comfortable working in a large and busy laboratory with many other team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience in a clinical laboratory or core laboratory facility is preferred.
  • Experience with design control documentation.
  • Broad knowledge of sequencing and molecular amplification methods.
  • Experience with Ion Torrent NGS systems preferred.
