About The Position

Hexcel, a global leader in advanced composite materials, is seeking an Analytical Scientist I for its Salt Lake City, UT, USA location. This early-career scientist role is focused on supporting analytical and thermoanalytical testing within a materials laboratory environment. The position involves executing established test methods, contributing to method development and optimization, and generating high-quality data to support various research, development, and production activities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in analytical chemistry, adhere to good laboratory practices, and demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience with analytical or materials characterization techniques (academic, industrial, or internship experience acceptable).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, reproducible data.
  • Ability to work independently on routine tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency in data analysis tools and laboratory software (e.g., Excel, instrument software).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with polymer, composite, or materials analysis.
  • Exposure to method development, method optimization, or validation activities.
  • Experience working in an SOP-driven, quality-conscious laboratory environment.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis or experimental design concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical and thermoanalytical experiments using techniques including: Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA), Thermomechanical Analysis (TMA), Rheology, Particle size analysis, Chromatography techniques including GC-MS and HPLC, and Karl Fischer titration for moisture determination.
  • Execute established analytical methods and protocols with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Assist in the development, optimization, and validation of analytical methods under guidance from senior scientists.
  • Design and carry out experiments with limited supervision, including appropriate sample preparation and documentation of procedures.
  • Analyze, interpret, and summarize experimental data; clearly communicate results, trends, and anomalies.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records in accordance with SOPs, quality standards, and data integrity expectations.
  • Perform routine instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance checks; coordinate repairs or escalations as needed.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and other stakeholders to support project goals.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant laboratory environment.
