About The Position

The Scientist I/II position in Small Molecule Analytical Sciences at AbbVie focuses on supporting drug discovery initiatives through high-throughput chemistry compound library purification and analysis. The role involves utilizing sophisticated instrumentation to solve complex analytical and separation challenges, collaborating with various teams, and maintaining high scientific standards in a laboratory environment.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related fields with 2+ years (MS); or 5+ years (BS) of job-related experience.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical and preparative scale HPLC and LC-MS.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot a variety of analytical and preparative instrumentation hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry and the ability to communicate effectively with high-throughput chemistry team.
  • Proven effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with scientists and engineers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience of working in a fast-paced enabling technologies group and communicating effectively with Medicinal Chemistry teams.
  • Experience in developing workflows for high-throughput chemistry analysis and purification.
  • Experience with instrument development, automation, and/or programming.

Responsibilities

  • Execute purification of high-throughput chemistry compound libraries using preparative HPLC-MS to support small molecule drug discovery projects.
  • Collaborate with high-throughput Chemistry team through developing methods and providing technical guidance to solve analytical and purification problems.
  • Collaborate within Analytical and Purification Sciences group to develop efficient workflows for sample prioritization and client communication.
  • Maintain analytical and preparative HPLC and MS instrumentation and independently troubleshoot instrument problems.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity in the laboratory setting.
  • Keep abreast of current literature and industry trends to assess new approaches in high-throughput purification and analytical technologies.
  • Propose and implement new initiatives/directions for the team.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of responsibility in maintaining scientific standards and safe laboratory practices.
  • Keep accurate and current records of research and/or project related activities according to AbbVie policies.
