Organization Overview: The Screening Biology group at the Lilly Seaport Boston site is seeking scientists with experience in assay development. As part of the Discovery Technology Platform within Lilly’s Small Molecule Discovery organization, the group develops and performs both cell-free and cell-based assays to characterize small molecules and proteins in support of drug discovery projects in multiple therapeutic areas. The team works closely with contract research organizations (CROs) to consistently generate high‑quality data that enables informed decision-making to help advance drug discovery projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Pharmacology or STEM related fields
  • Hands on industry experience in cell culture or biophysical/biochemical methodologies
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role, including but not limited to F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Pharmacology or a related field plus 1 year of relevant experience in pharmaceutical or academic research.
  • Familiarity with equipment used in a pharmaceutical research laboratory
  • Experience with flow cytometry sample preparations and acquisition
  • Experience in cell culture and analysis methods (such as fluorescence intensity, luminescence, ELISA)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and a broad knowledge in assay development
  • Possess strong technical understanding of experimental methods and data analysis
  • The position involves extensive collaboration with internal partners and CROs, requiring effective and professional communication skills.
  • Relevant industry experience in Records Information Management.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize cell-free and cell-based assay protocols to support drug discovery programs.
  • Perform in vitro experiments and analyze assay data to determine sample effectiveness and provide actionable insights for project teams.
  • Collaborate with CROs to ensure the generation of high-quality experimental data.
  • Interpret results and communicate findings to cross-functional teams to guide decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of assay development and data analysis processes.
  • Work within cross-functional teams in a positive way to implement quality objectives and site objectives.
