Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience supporting scientific computing environments
  • Strong knowledge of Windows, macOS, and Linux troubleshooting
  • Proficiency in Linux/Unix administration and scripting (Bash, Python)
  • Familiarity with scientific software installation and configuration
  • Understanding of NIH security and compliance requirements
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant industry certifications like: MCSA, A+, ITIL Foundation, ACSP, ACIT, Linux+, Security+, etc
  • Familiarity with remote management tools like SCCM and Jamf
  • Basic scripting knowledge (PowerShell, Bash, etc.)
  • Strong documentation and training capabilities

Responsibilities

  • Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 support for scientific computing environments, including Windows, Mac, and Linux desktop environments
  • Troubleshoot hardware, operating system, and application issues in a research environment
  • Support installation and updates of scientific software packages (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB)
  • Assist with secure data transfers and ensure compliance with NIH security standards
  • Provide user training and documentation for common scientific computing tasks
  • Collaborate with IT teams to escalate complex issues and maintain system integrity
