The Institute for Health Informatics (IHI) at the University of Minnesota is seeking a Scientific Programmer/Data Scientist to join Dr. Sisi Ma's research team. This position is focused on computational causal discovery and predictive modeling theory and method development, with applications in biomedicine and health. As a Researcher 5, the successful candidate will engage in a variety of responsibilities that include conducting analytical experiments, developing algorithms, and contributing to publications and presentations. In the role, the candidate will conduct analytical experiments, which involves constructing datasets from various data sources, designing and implementing data processing and analysis infrastructure, and ensuring the integrity and security of data, code, and analytical experiments. The candidate will also design, set up, and run computational experiments to evaluate and benchmark cutting-edge machine learning algorithms, as well as execute these algorithms on various types of biomedical or healthcare-related data. The position also entails algorithm development, where the candidate will implement machine learning, statistical, data-mining, and bioinformatics/clinical informatics algorithms. They will be responsible for developing and modifying software, creating documentation for all software, code, and experiments, and writing or helping prepare technical reports and publications. Additionally, the candidate will communicate and present analytical results to customers, scientists, and clinicians, and will have the opportunity to mentor junior data scientists.
