About The Position

We are seeking a Scientific Computing Liaison to join a Scientific Technologies team supporting high-performance computing (HPC) and scientific research. This role serves as a critical bridge between researchers and HPC engineering staff, combining scientific domain knowledge with technical expertise to enable effective use of computational resources. The ideal candidate will work closely with investigators to understand their scientific workflows, guide them in leveraging HPC resources, and collaborate with engineering teams to optimize performance and usability of the HPC environments. This role is hybrid with 2-3 days a week onsite in Rockville, MD. Travel will not be reimbursed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, or a related scientific field
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with bioinformatics, scientific data analysis workflows, and/or related fields
  • Familiarity with a variety of scientific software tools and analytical techniques
  • Working knowledge of Unix/Linux-based environments and HPC systems (e.g., job schedulers, distributed computing)
  • Experience in a customer-facing or service-oriented role supporting scientific users
  • Ability to translate between scientific and technical audiences
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree preferred
  • Exposure to genomics, Cryo-EM data, or other large-scale biological datasets
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or R
  • Experience optimizing or troubleshooting computational workflows
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills with a user-focused mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across teams
  • Collaborative approach with a focus on enabling scientific outcomes

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison between scientific users and the HPC engineering team
  • Engage with researchers to understand computational workflows, analysis pipelines, and scientific objectives
  • Guide users in effectively leveraging HPC resources and adopting best practices
  • Assist in troubleshooting scientific applications, pipelines, and data analysis workflows
  • Translate scientific requirements into actionable input for HPC engineering improvements
  • Identify opportunities to enhance user experience, documentation, and service offerings
