The Scientific Affairs Director position within Abbott's Toxicology business unit is a pivotal role that provides strategic direction and scientific insight to advance the business unit's objectives. This position is based in either Lake Forest, IL, or Pomona, CA, and is not available for hybrid or remote work. The director will lead interactions with key opinion leaders in toxicology, government agencies, and professional societies, ensuring that Abbott remains at the forefront of the rapidly evolving drug testing field. The role involves collating and summarizing data, presenting findings at professional conferences, and overseeing technical projects that align with Abbott's strategic plan. In this capacity, the director will ensure that new products meet the demands of the drug testing market, working closely with the biologics group to select appropriate antibodies and providing scientific rationale for cut-offs and cross-reactants. The director will also collaborate with the Regulatory Assurance group to assist in the development, documentation, and registration of novel technologies and products, including IVDR and FDA 510K submissions. Participation in design reviews and other meetings for new product development and launch is essential, as is providing technical information and presentations to support product marketing. The role requires the director to represent Abbott in a professional capacity at scientific conferences, advisory boards, and relevant working groups, while also overseeing the development and implementation of analytical procedures that support the company's products. Collaboration with external researchers on grant submissions and organizing workshops, webinars, and presentations are also key responsibilities. The director will remain active in professional societies and provide technical expertise to legislators and the public regarding new matrix analysis for drug testing in drivers.
