About The Position

LMI is seeking a Science and Technology (S&T) Advisor to support the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) mission partner at Fort Bragg, NC. This role serves at the nexus of advanced technology acquisition, capability development, and special operations force modernization. The selected candidate will provide senior-level advisory support helping identify, assess, and integrate emerging technologies that enable Special Operations Forces (SOF) to maintain overmatch against near-peer competitors. This position directly contributes to accelerating the fielding of transformational capabilities across SOCOM components, bridging the gap between the science and technology enterprise and operational SOF requirements. This is not a conventional S&T liaison role. The selected candidate will operate at the intersection of: SOF operational requirements and technology scouting Acquisition strategy and resource management Rapid capability development and transition to force You will serve as a trusted technical advisor, translating complex technology concepts into actionable acquisition and investment strategies that directly inform modernization decisions. Requirements

  • Active Secret clearance
  • 10+ years of combined experience in military operations, defense acquisition, or government S&T programs
  • Direct experience with SOF component commands
  • Working knowledge of the DoD acquisition system, Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) process, and Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS)
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and communicate technology readiness levels (TRL) and transition pathways
  • Proficiency in developing executive-level briefings and written products
  • Experience working in or directly supporting a G8/J8 resource management or acquisition function
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with senior military and civilian leadership

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advisory support to leadership on emerging technology trends and their applicability to SOF missions
  • Assess the maturity and operational suitability of technologies across critical capability areas including autonomous systems, directed energy, counter-UAS, communications, and sensors
  • Analyze DoD S&T investment priorities and identify opportunities to leverage programs
  • Develop and maintain technology roadmaps aligned with mission partner capability development plans
  • Advise on acquisition pathways including OTA, SBIR/STTR, Rapid Fielding, and traditional ACAT programs
  • Support the development of capability requirements documents, technical performance measures, and acquisition strategies
  • Assist in evaluating vendor proposals, white papers, and technology demonstrations
  • Coordinate with mission partner resource managers to align S&T investments with programmatic and budgetary constraints
  • Interface with DARPA, ARL, SOCOM Science and Technology Directorate, service S&T organizations, and national laboratories
  • Represent mission partner equities at interagency, joint, and coalition S&T forums and working groups
  • Facilitate technology transition agreements and cooperative research and development relationships
  • Build and maintain relationships with defense industry innovators, emerging technology firms, and academic partners
  • Prepare briefings, white papers, and decision support packages for senior leadership
  • Contribute to mission partner Science and Technology Master Plans and Integrated Priority Lists
  • Translate technical findings into operationally relevant recommendations for non-technical decision-makers
  • Support lessons-learned capture and after-action reviews for S&T programs and transitions
