About The Position

The Science Teacher (Grades 6–8), under the supervision of the Executive Director, is responsible for creating an engaging and rigorous classroom environment that fosters students’ curiosity, critical thinking, and understanding of scientific concepts. This role supports students in developing inquiry-based skills and a strong foundation in life, physical, and earth sciences.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of middle school science content and instructional best practices.
  • Ability to design engaging, hands-on, and student-centered learning experiences.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Ability to integrate technology and data to support instruction and student achievement.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with students, families, and staff.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and contribute to a collaborative school culture.
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth and reflective practice.
  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in Science (or appropriate licensure for middle school science instruction).
  • Experience teaching middle school students preferred.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and meet all district employment requirements.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds (e.g., classroom materials, lab equipment).
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move throughout the day.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing, writing, and reading.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver science instruction aligned with school and state standards.
  • Teach core science content, including life science, physical science, and earth/space science.
  • Design and implement hands-on, inquiry-based lessons, labs, and experiments.
  • Assess student learning and adjust instruction based on data and student needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and assessments in compliance with district policies and applicable laws.
  • Communicate effectively with students and families; encourage family engagement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across grade levels and content areas to support student success.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school committees.
  • Support school-wide events such as conferences, curriculum nights, and family engagement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
