About The Position

Columbia University's Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute is seeking a full-time Science Communications Officer to join its dynamic team. This role is pivotal in bridging the gap between complex scientific research and the public, ensuring that the groundbreaking work conducted at the Institute is communicated effectively and engagingly. The Science Communications Officer will be responsible for developing compelling news and feature stories that convey intricate scientific concepts with clarity and sophistication, catering to a science-curious audience. This position is situated in the state-of-the-art Jerome L. Greene Science Center, located in the heart of Manhattan, providing a vibrant backdrop for scholarly research and communication. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in media relations and digital engagement to craft and execute tailored strategies that amplify the work of the Zuckerman Institute. This includes identifying and promoting original content, drafting press materials, and cultivating relationships with reporters to secure coverage in influential media outlets. The Science Communications Officer will also curate and manage the Institute's website, employing imaginative and strategic approaches to maximize digital impact and audience engagement. This role requires a collaborative spirit, as the officer will work closely with Columbia faculty, administration, and colleagues across various departments to foster a culture of respect and inclusivity in scientific discovery. In addition to the core responsibilities, the Science Communications Officer will be expected to perform other related duties and special projects as assigned, contributing to the overall mission of the Zuckerman Institute to advance insights into human health through innovative research.
