About The Position

We are looking for a School Social Worker with experience working with children. Our ideal candidate has a passion for supporting families and children with learning differences by ensuring they receive the best care and tools for success. About SER YOUTHBUILD Learning Academy: SYLA is a charter high school for youth ages 14-21. Its model combines classroom instruction by a certified teacher with enabling students to learn a trade while in school, providing learners with the knowledge, skills, and self-discipline necessary to become successful citizens in a global society. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Active license/ certification as a social worker for the state of Michigan (Must have LMSW and or LCSW)
  • At least 2 years experience working in a school-based setting
  • Experience with RTI/ MTSS and other intervention plans
  • Excellent communication skills, specifically the ability to communicate with children of different ages and from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication, computer and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact with students, parents and staff in a positive and productive manner.
  • Ability to work with parents, students, faculty, post-secondary educational representatives and community partners.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience working in an urban setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) and online sourcing tools with functional knowledge of internet use for search platforms.
  • Must possess the ability to remain composed and work effectively during high pressured and stressful situations.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of office equipment.
  • Must possess the ability to prioritize assignments, multi-task, meet and manage deadlines.
  • Must represent SER Metro at all times in a positive and professional manner.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
  • Must possess and provide a valid Michigan Driver's License. Incumbent must also have reliable transportation.
  • Must complete FBI fingerprinting and a satisfactory criminal background check must be received.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct counseling services to children
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to create a treatment plan or an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) for each child, including identifying specific counseling related goals
  • Provide staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc.) affecting a student’s performance and behavior
  • Assist in developing positive behavioral intervention strategies
  • Assess students with mental health concerns
  • Develop staff in-service training programs
  • Work with parents to facilitate their support in their children's school adjustment
  • Assist teachers with behavior management
  • Provide direct support to staff
  • Will perform other duties as appropriate.
