About The Position

The School Social Worker position is a certificated personnel role within District 86, focusing on providing social work services for preschool and school-age children through the 8th grade. The role is under the delegated authority of the Coordinator of Funding and Private Placements and involves working closely with various stakeholders including parents, community groups, and school staff. The position is non-exempt and follows a 9-month schedule, aligning with the collective bargaining agreement between the Board of School Inspectors and the Council of the American Federation of Teachers.

Requirements

  • MSW degree from an accredited school of social work.
  • Professional Educator License with Social Worker Endorsement.
  • Approval and Registration as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Social Worker.

Responsibilities

  • Arrange and complete social developmental studies and family analyses related to learning and social behavior problems of children referred for service.
  • Plan and develop appropriate social work intervention techniques for children.
  • Arrange conferences about children for whom evaluations and interventions have been completed.
  • Participate in the development of management plans to aid children referred for services.
  • Implement social work intervention strategies to aid children, parents, and teachers.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students at risk due to abuse, neglect, or crisis.
  • Function as a member of the Case Action Team or Pre-School Assessment Team.
  • Provide social developmental studies and adaptive behavior assessments for referred children.
  • Participate in staffings of evaluated children with appropriate school personnel.
  • Confer and cooperate with Case Action Team members regarding case disposition and follow-up.
  • Participate in re-evaluation staffings for children in special education programs.
  • Provide individual and/or group therapy to students on social work caseloads.
  • Recommend appropriate intervention procedures for evaluated children and families.
  • Consult with school personnel and parents regarding management of children with learning and social behavior problems.
  • Provide liaison services between schools and community agencies.
  • Investigate and report suspected child abuse cases.
  • Serve as a member of a Crisis Intervention Team during emergencies.
  • Provide written reports about children for whom evaluations have been completed.
  • Develop IEPs for children on therapy caseloads.
  • Submit bi-monthly reports of activities to the Coordinator of Funding and Private Placements.
  • Attend monthly staff development sessions and other meetings as required.
