The School Social Worker at Colorado Military Academy plays a crucial role in supporting students' emotional and social well-being. This position operates under the supervision of the Head of School and is dedicated to helping students return to class in an emotionally safe manner. The School Social Worker is responsible for equipping students with essential coping skills to manage mental health challenges and social stressors. The role involves collaborating with students, parents, administrators, and teaching staff to implement and complete safety plans, Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Behavior and Social Emotional Plans, and conducting threat assessments as necessary. In this position, the School Social Worker will support students in developing emotional regulation, enhancing peer relationships, and improving decision-making skills. The role requires working closely with students and staff to facilitate effective communication and establish structures for conflict resolution. Additionally, the School Social Worker will assist classroom teachers in teaching time management and organizational skills, providing support to students who require additional instruction in these areas through regular check-ins. Crisis intervention is a key responsibility, as the School Social Worker will respond to emergencies involving students and families. The School Social Worker serves as a vital resource for students, offering counseling that promotes personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity. This role also involves assisting students and teaching staff in implementing behavior management plans and coordinating with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions, including state and federal authorities when necessary. The School Social Worker will act as a liaison between home and school, providing short-term counseling to students and parents to foster behavioral management and personal development. To maintain professional knowledge and stay updated on current developments in the educational field, the School Social Worker is expected to attend seminars, workshops, and professional meetings, as well as conduct research. Accurate record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers are also essential tasks.
