About The Position

The position involves working under the Principal in conjunction with the Director of Student Support Services to implement the student development curriculum across elementary, middle, and high school levels. Responsibilities include guiding students through transitions, counseling individuals and groups for academic and emotional growth, and consulting with teachers and parents about student needs. The role also requires collaboration with other counselors and coordinators to refer students to special programs and participate in problem-solving processes. Continuous professional growth and maintaining confidentiality are essential aspects of the job.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling.
  • Certification as a School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of theoretical frameworks of intellectual, social, and emotional development.
  • Familiarity with social work or counseling principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with mental health and emotional impairments affecting student achievement.
  • Experience with crisis management and intervention.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of medical conditions and medication related to physical disabilities and learning disorders.
  • Familiarity with prevention and treatment of substance abuse, physical and sexual abuse, and violence in students.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the elementary, middle, high school student development curriculum.
  • Guide individuals and groups of students through successful transitions.
  • Counsel individuals and small groups of students toward academic, social, and emotional growth.
  • Consult with and train teachers, parents, and staff regarding student needs.
  • Work with other Counselors and City Connects Coordinators to refer students to special programs and outside agencies.
  • Participate in and facilitate the problem-solving process (STAT).
  • Participate in the planning and evaluation of the counseling program.
  • Schedule presentations to school staff about student support services.
  • Maintain confidentiality and records consistent with ethical and legal guidelines.
  • Attend district professional development and meetings.
