About The Position

Provides armed security in the event of an active threat to the campus. Responsible for the safety and security operation of the campus to ensure the welfare of students, staff, and visitors. Coordinates with the campus principals to implement, evaluate and improve campus safety and security protocols. Collaborates with campus leadership to manage and implement, when needed, the Campus Emergency Operations Plan. Serves as a member of the campus Building Emergency Response Team (B.E.R.T). Conducts weekly door audits, campus building audits, and provides leadership and support for all safety protocols and related documentation for campuses. Provides and promotes support to campuses, which promotes a positive, healthy, and safe learning environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Texas Peace Officer License issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
  • Provide an updated copy of TCOLE Personal Status Report
  • Provide a copy of most recent agency separation of licensee (F-5)
  • TCOLE training standards are current with active license
  • Must have a valid Texas driver’s license
  • Established law enforcement experience (preferred), military police, or out-of-state law enforcement experience and are willing to challenge the Texas Peace Officer’s test
  • Texas Peace Officer Special Knowledge and Skills
  • General knowledge of Texas School Safety, Texas Education Agency, and Texas State Statutes
  • Possess sensitivity, maturity, and other skills to work with adolescents within an educational environment
  • Proficient organizational, communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Proficient in personal and property security techniques, electronic security, and camera systems
  • Knowledge of health and safety programs and applicable state and federal laws
  • Proficient in following complex oral and written instructions
  • Report writing
  • Ability to use a firearm and successfully complete weapons qualifications
  • Ability to de-escalate incidents as needed
  • Ability to use force up to and including deadly force to protect lives
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment which is everchanging and fluid

  • Must satisfactorily complete district training within 60 days of employment
  • Must complete TCOLE Firearms Qualification upon hire.
  • Will be subject to physical and psychological examinations upon hire.
  • Will be subject to Drug Test upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • FEMA Incident Command certification (preferred)
  • Willing to obtain certification within 6 months of employment
  • Established law enforcement experience (preferred), military police, or out-of-state law enforcement experience and are willing to challenge the Texas Peace Officer’s test

Responsibilities

  • Commands presence, visible at high traffic times on campus, and attends after school events as needed.
  • Conducts interior/exterior patrols of the campus and grounds.
  • Coordinates with campus leadership to complete and manage campus Emergency Operation Plans for campuses within feeder patterns.
  • Conducts campus safety and security door checks, weekly door audits and campus building audits.
  • Coordinates with campus leadership and staff to perform SRP safety procedures and drills, including proper documentation.
  • Coordinates with campus leadership to provide training to staff; on CRASE, Standard Response Protocols, and any other safety-related topics.
  • Assists campus administrators with safety-related issues as needed.
  • Assists campus administrators with issues related to traffic flow and parking
  • Communicates with campus administrator in matters related to keys, key cards, and entrance/exit issues, including signage or other safety-related issues.
  • Participates in required annual automated external defibrillator (AED), crisis prevention institute, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Stop the Bleed training, other required district training, weapon qualifications, and maintain TCOLE required training as mandated.
  • Notifies supervisors immediately of evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide, or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.
  • Assists campuses with safety resources and inventory.
  • Communicates effectively with students, staff, parents, administration, and School Resource Officers.
  • Complies with the district, state, and local policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Coordinates program-related staff development.
  • Attends and participates in meetings.
  • Models professionalism and nondiscriminatory practices in an educational environment.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
