About The Position

Assisting students who experience physical, mental, social or emotional difficulties; identifying difficulties and promoting improvement through evaluation, intervention and/or consultation; referring and/or coordinating with community service agencies; planning, developing and evaluating programs; establishing appropriate interventions within the school setting.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree required, Doctorate preferred
  • One year of supervised internship, meet certification requirements by the State of Arizona and the Department of Education for School Psychologist
  • Successful experience as a psychologist in a school setting.
  • Working knowledge of normal and abnormal child development.
  • Diagnostic abilities to evaluate current intellectual functioning and emotional adjustments of individual students.
  • Ability to determine factors contributing to adjustments and/or learning difficulties of students from the standpoint of mental maturity, academic achievement, emotional maturity, social adjustment and gifted abiltiy.

Responsibilities

  • Assess student’s functional capabilities within and in consideration of multiple environments for the purpose of determining student’s functioning level and developing recommendations and/or placement.
  • Consult with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals to provide requested information, develop plans for services and/or make recommendations.
  • Counsel students, parents, and/or guardians for the purpose of evaluating issues and developing plans that will enhance student success.
  • Facilitate meetings (e.g. IEP conferences, parent meetings, in-service, etc.) for the purpose of developing plans and/or providing information regarding student goals.
  • Intervene in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and develop successful inter-personal skills.
  • Participate in various meetings (e.g. parent conferences, in-service training, site meetings, etc.) to receive and/or present information and/or meet credential requirements.
  • Prepare documentation (e.g. evaluations, observations, progress, contacts with parents, teachers, and outside professionals, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support, develop recommendations and/or convey information.
  • Research resources and methods (e.g. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) to determine appropriate approach for addressing student’s specifics needs.
  • Supervises interns, practicum students, and others for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of school’s curriculum.
  • Coordinate and communicate with community agencies including medical, judicial, social service and mental health services to determine the appropriate treatments, etc. to meet the needs of specific students.
  • Develop and evaluate school-wide programs (e.g. crisis intervention services, prevention programs, etc.) to assist students who experience physical, mental, social or emotional difficulties.
  • Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
