About The Position

The School Psychologist at Salmon River Central School District plays a crucial role in supporting students' academic and emotional well-being. This position involves collaborating with teachers, families, and mental health professionals to implement effective support strategies, improve school practices, and coordinate services for students. Requirements

  • Six-year degree (60 or more semester hours) or a doctoral degree from a planned program in school psychology in an accredited university.
  • New York State School Psychologists Certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and interventions to students.
  • Consult with teachers, families, and mental health professionals to improve support strategies.
  • Work with school administrators to improve school-wide practices and policies.
  • Collaborate with community providers to coordinate needed services.
  • Conduct psychological and academic assessments.
  • Individualize instruction and interventions.
  • Manage student and classroom behavior.
  • Monitor student progress and collect data.
  • Promote positive behavior and mental health.
  • Provide individual and group counseling.
  • Assess student emotional and behavioral needs.
  • Promote problem solving, anger management, and conflict resolution.
  • Reinforce positive coping skills and resilience.
  • Promote positive peer relationships and social problem solving.
  • Make referrals to community services provided in schools.
  • Assess diverse learning needs of students.
  • Provide culturally responsive services to students and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Assist in the development of IEPs for students with disabilities.
  • Monitor and communicate with parents about student progress.
  • Work to prevent bullying and other forms of violence.
  • Support social-emotional learning and assess school climate.
  • Implement school-wide positive behavioral supports.
  • Identify at-risk students and school vulnerabilities.
  • Provide crisis prevention and intervention services.
  • Help families understand their child's learning and mental health needs.
  • Assist faculty and families in navigating special education processes.
  • Connect families with community service providers when necessary.
  • Enhance staff understanding and responsiveness to diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Help students transition between school and community learning environments.
  • Generate and interpret useful student and school outcome data.
  • Collect and analyze data on risk and protective factors related to student outcomes.
