About The Position

The School Psychologist Intern position is designed to enable students to derive the maximum educational benefit from school by promoting a sense of self and addressing educational and psychological problems under the supervision of a licensed school psychologist. This is a full-time, exempt term position within the Educational Services department, reporting to the Coordinator of Special Services. The intern will be involved in various essential duties that contribute to the psychological and educational needs of students.

Requirements

• B.A. or higher and working towards a M.A. in School Psychology.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the psychological and educational needs of students, including collection of medical, developmental, and educational histories.
• Selects appropriate tests and administers and interprets test results.
• Writes reports and participates in multidisciplinary conferences with parents and school personnel.
• Arranges for and monitors out-of-district placements of exceptional students.
• May be required to restrain students and maintains confidentiality.
• Implements district policies and guidelines relating to special education.
• Represents the school district's interests by attending State Department of Education meetings regarding school psychological services.
• Provides consultation services to personnel and community members.
• Offers short-term counseling to students and parents on matters related to students' learning and social-emotional adjustments.
• Participates in the evaluation of special education teachers, speech and occupational therapists, and aides.
• Participates in extracurricular assignments as needed.
