About The Position

The Principal is responsible for the administrative duties involving the daily supervision and organization of ACE Academy, a private school, the Youth Development aftercare and summer programs funded by the Children’s Trust, as well as the selection of a state-recommended exceptional student education curriculum for students with special needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in related field and 5-7 years of relevant experience in an educational setting.
  • DCF Director Credential

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the selection, placement, supervision and hiring of school personnel
  • Maintain open communication with all personnel in an effort to resolve internal conflicts and issues.
  • Ensure the enrollment, and Dept. of Education invoicing of students is completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure financial reports of incoming scholarships are submitted to the CFO.
  • Participate in the resolution process of parent/guardian conflicts.
  • Train and supervise classroom teachers to generate ACE Academy Education Plans (EP’s) once a year at the commencement of the school year and attend additional interim meetings, as needed.
  • Arrange and provide tours to interested parents, community agencies and guests.
  • Ensure that the School and its facilities provide a safe, clean environment to employees and students.
  • Oversee and approve the composition of each classroom according to student needs, appropriate developmental progress, skills, and EP objectives.
  • Oversee Arc contracted therapy providers and outside service providers (e.g.: ABA’s) and ensure files and documentation are current.
  • Assist with revision and distribution of Family Handbook each school year.
  • Assist with distribution and collection of Parent Commitment letters.
  • Perform other administrative responsibilities as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • Generate incident reports/lesson plans for after school and summer programs and other data needs funded by Children’s Trust.
  • Complete and/or oversee payroll for ACE Academy and after school/summer camps biweekly.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, trainings and/or seminars in representation of ACE Academy.
  • Arrange and participate in fund-raising activities and The Arc of South Florida events throughout the year.
  • Provide on-going program implementation support to personnel including administrative staff, Classroom Teachers, Teacher Assistants, and therapeutic service providers, at program’s sites.
  • Support and monitor program and therapeutic curriculum implementation on a routine basis for day and after school/summer camps.
  • Recommend instructional teaching strategies for students with special needs to Classroom teachers
  • Evaluate staff members once within a school year and on an as needed basis if individuals are placed on probation due to written reprimands.
  • Ensure all visiting professionals and independent contractors are in compliance with background checks and insurance.
  • Select appropriate curricula to meet and organize schedules for the assigned campus as well as for after school/summer camps.
  • Select, order, and process developmentally appropriate materials, resources and curriculum for students with disabilities, as needed, including after school/summer camps.
  • Ensure assessments are completed according to Dept. of Education requirements.
  • Plan for, locate and arrange out of school learning opportunities as related to thematic units as well as their after school/summer camps.
  • Coordinate and implement staff professional development
  • Monitor and review lesson plans weekly.
  • Identify need for additional student support and coordinate in-service trainings to staff in positive behavior support and conflict-resolution strategies for students with special needs.
  • Attend mandated provider meetings as delineated in after school/summer camps.
  • Network to create community partnerships in surrounding communities of School’s locations.
  • Contact and maintain open communication with parents.
  • Include parents of students with disabilities during the Education Plan process.
  • Refer day program and after school/summer camps families to community resources, as needed.
  • Encourage completion of online family surveys as required by funder.
  • Maintain positive interactions with families at all times.
  • Attend occasional parent education and support activities (Open House).
  • Follow agency guidelines regarding technology and social media.
  • Follow all Agency Policies & Procedures and the Employee Handbook.
  • Comply with quality assurance expectations and standards.
  • Follow all Agency safety and security policies and procedures
  • Report accidents, injuries and unsafe work conditions to the Site Director or assignee.
  • Ensure that personal appearance is professional and clean.
  • Speak with others using clear and professional language.
  • Answer telephones using appropriate etiquette.
  • Maintain child/student confidentiality.
  • Maintain Agency confidentiality.
  • Protect Agency assets.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others.
  • Cooperate with teachers and support staff including therapists, teacher assistants, Coordinator and Director of Children & Youth Department.
  • Follow recommendations and requests from Director of Children & Youth Department.
  • Provide observations and suggestions to Director of Children & Youth Department.
  • Cooperate with community partners and other service providers.
  • Supervise staff to clean all areas of school as required throughout the day and after the children leave using safe and effective methods.
  • Identify and ensure all safety and security issues are resolved.
  • Supervise staff to maintain organization of school by filing paperwork, storing equipment and organizing supplies.
  • Complete initial orientation provided by program.
  • Participate in on-going, in-service trainings.
  • Participate in fund-raising activities and agency events throughout the year.
  • Present a positive image of The Arc to the community.
  • Attend community meetings needed for contract compliance and by Department Director’s directive.
  • Meet with the other ACE Academy campus administrators, as needed.
  • Perform other related and additional duties, as needed – select and contract food/transportation service providers, office and program supply orders, furniture orders, facility environment, (with management approval).
  • Present a positive image of the School and The Arc of South Florida to the community.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of The Arc of South Florida.
  • Disseminate information to The Arc of South Florida departments on a regular basis such as Finance Department, C&Y, HR, etc.
  • Perform other related and additional duties as needed.
