About The Position

This position is primarily responsible for ensuring the safety of students, employees, buildings and grounds of each school by enforcing applicable laws and exercising all lawfully authorized powers, including the power to cite and detain and by developing and maintaining positive relationships with students, families and employees through mentoring, respectful and courteous interactions.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in related field.
  • 2-4 years experience in a security environment.
  • NASRO training, required.
  • Valid PA Driver’s License.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified.
  • ACT 235 (PA Lethal Weapons Training).
  • ACT 120 Certified (Municipal Police Training), required for new hires as of 2004.

  • Knowledge of individual students Positive Behavior Support Plans, crisis plans, and clinical goals.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor best practices for screening students and visitors arriving at the school.
  • Collaborate with system wide leadership to implement and monitor safety protocols to minimize threats to the occupants of the building and grounds.
  • Notify building leadership and organizational leadership of threats or conditions that could compromise safety.
  • Initiate internal reports and serve as the SHS lead when further investigations are warranted.
  • Liaison with student’s home school districts to provide information and reports regarding legal situations and investigations.
  • Liaison with Pennsylvania State Police and local law enforcement agencies to conduct risk and threat assessments.
  • Liaison with maintenance and Executive Directors to assess and proactively address building safety.
  • Work with building leadership teams to create safety, security and emergency preparedness plans.
  • Conduct threat and response training geared towards school safety.
  • Regularly monitor and communicate best practices from PDE and USDE regarding safe schools, funding opportunities and new initiatives.
  • Participate in the Soaring Heights Policy and Procedure workgroup.
  • Assist in enforcing student policies and procedures regarding safety.
  • Regularly interact with students in a positive, mentoring and supportive way to build meaningful relationships.
  • Assist in traffic and safety control around school property.
  • Relay complaint and emergency request information to the appropriate agency emergency dispatchers.
  • Assist Juvenile Probation Officers and/or Children and Youth Services caseworkers in activities on school grounds.
  • Cite, detain and/or refer for additional investigation and/or prosecution of individuals for violations thereof in conformity with federal, state and local law as well as SHS policies.
  • Ensure the security, safety, and well-being of all personnel, visitors and premises by regularly monitoring and patrolling the building and school grounds.
  • Completion of all desired trainings as designated by the company and/or licensing body.
  • Must exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality with regard to all company information.
  • Attend student support meetings and provide input as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
