About The Position

The School Outreach Counselor at David L. Carrasco Job Corps is responsible for conducting outreach and recruitment activities to enroll students in various training programs. This role involves interfacing with outreach contractors, assessing student qualifications, and ensuring compliance with government directives. The counselor is committed to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling and mentoring them in essential career success standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or a closely related field; or an Associate's degree with relevant experience.
  • Experience in Job Corps outreach and admissions or similar youth development programs.
  • Valid State driver's license with an acceptable driving record preferred.
  • Good organizational skills and excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid CPR/First Aid certificate.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students.

  • Experience with youth development programs.
  • Familiarity with Career Success Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach and direct recruitment activities.
  • Interface with other outreach contractors.
  • Determine student qualifications for enrollment in training programs.
  • Model and mentor students in Career Success Standards.
  • Attend and present at designated events such as job fairs and resource fairs.
  • Develop linkages with referral sources to identify potential students.
  • Interview candidates to support eligibility and complete applicant folders.
  • Follow up on student progress and maintain communication with the center.
  • Participate in industry advisory councils and community relations councils.
  • Assist with contacting AWOL students and non-responsive former enrollees.
