The College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair of the School of Computing Instruction for the Atlanta campus located in midtown Atlanta, Georgia. The Chair will have the opportunity to build upon the success of the School and the College of Computing. With more students graduating with a Computer Science degree than any other major at Georgia Tech and the Institute's requirement that every student complete at least one programming course, quality instruction on the foundations of computing has never been more important. The School of Computing Instruction (SCI) was created to serve these critical needs within Georgia Tech and beyond. Our award-winning teaching-focused faculty have three core missions: Platform for Creativity and Innovation, Scalability of Computing Instruction, and Transparency and Meaningful Dialogue. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Computing, the Chair has overall responsibility for the academic program in the School of Computing Instruction specifically focusing on all budgetary, administrative, academic, fiscal, and personal decisions in conjunction with the mission and goals of the College and Georgia Tech.

  • Overall responsibility for the academic program in the School of Computing Instruction.
  • Focus on all budgetary, administrative, academic, fiscal, and personal decisions.
  • Provide overall leadership for all the school's teaching components at the undergraduate level.
  • Establish collaborative and interdisciplinary relationships with other Computing School Chairs and leaders in the College.
  • Build successful partnerships with executive leaders at Georgia Tech.
  • Engage in external affairs, community engagement, and industry relationships.
  • Have a Doctorate in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Be a Senior Lecturer (equivalent or above) in a premier department at a research university.
  • Have a proven record of achieving external visibility and funding.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and team building skills.
  • Care about the personal and educational enrichment of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Experience with strategic planning, administrative oversight, fiscal management, and vision development.
  • Embrace participative management and open decision-making.
  • Commitment to building an outstanding and diverse community of learning.
  • Policies to promote a healthy work-life balance.
