About The Position

The position involves preparing a variety of foods including breakfast items, meats, breads, fruits, vegetables, salads, sandwiches, soups, and snacks. The individual will serve food on the line, correctly identify reimbursable meals and snack items, and use a cash register to process financial transactions while following written cash collection procedures. Cleaning duties include washing pans, utensils, and equipment, wiping dining tables and chairs, emptying trash, sweeping and mopping assigned sections, and properly dating and placing stock in storage areas. The role requires a service-oriented attitude and cooperation with students, parents, staff, and administration. The individual will rotate frequently to all Vance County cafeterias based on the needs of the school district, and dependable attendance is critical as no substitutes will be available.

Requirements

  • Experience in commercial or institutional food service, school setting preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Vocational training or a combination of education and experience.
  • Cashier skills required.
  • ServSafe Certificate or NC Safe Plates Certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete work assignments in a timely manner according to the daily written schedule set by the Manager.
  • Follow recipe directions to assure quality food in the correct amount for timely service at safe temperatures.
  • Record temperature of hot and cold foods, freezer, refrigerator, milk box, and stockroom on correct forms.
  • Set up and replenish serving counter with pans of food, utensils, trays, and napkins.
  • Serve food to all customers quickly with a courteous, friendly attitude.
  • Be accountable for accurate reimbursable meals, financial transactions, and cash collection procedures.
  • Keep work and serving area clean and organized, including returning food and supplies to appropriate storage.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move 25-50 pounds; be on feet for extended periods; withstand walk-in refrigerator/freezer temperatures.
  • Weigh, count, and store leftover food items, recording amounts and temperatures on appropriate reports.
  • Follow HACCP guidelines and CDC rules for COVID to assure high standards of safety and sanitation.
  • Learn to operate and care for all equipment, including safety and sanitation requirements.
  • Follow all rules and procedures of Vance County Schools, including State and Federal regulations for the School Nutrition Program.
  • Complete assigned cleaning duties in a timely manner according to the written work schedule.
  • Participate in on-the-job training for food production/service, sanitation, safety, storage, and records.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to assure a positive, professional cafeteria image.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
