About The Position

The School Nurse at Linn-Mar Community Schools provides direct health services to students and plays a crucial role in planning, implementing, and evaluating the health services program. This position involves assessing health-related conditions, coordinating care with families and healthcare providers, and supervising health office procedures. The School Nurse also develops individual health plans for students with special needs and provides training and supervision to non-licensed personnel.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor's degree required.
• Current Iowa Nursing License.
• CPR certification required.
• Experience in crisis intervention and program management.
• Ability to work with people with disabilities and in special education settings.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

• Knowledge of Medicaid reimbursement procedures.
• Familiarity with health care delivery systems and primary health care concepts.

Responsibilities

• Assess and manage health-related conditions of students.
• Stay updated on current healthcare trends and provide leadership in health initiatives.
• Coordinate school-based management of health problems with students, families, and healthcare providers.
• Train and supervise non-licensed personnel performing health procedures.
• Counsel students on health-related concerns and assist families in obtaining healthcare resources.
• Supervise the health office, including medication administration and immunization compliance.
• Participate in Child Study Team meetings and observe student behavior in classrooms.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individual health plans for students with special needs.
• Coordinate First Aid/CPR training and screenings for vision and hearing.
• Provide in-service educational opportunities for staff regarding health issues.
• Order and monitor supplies for the nurse's office.
• Document school health services and activities accurately.
