About The Position

Valor Collegiate Academies is hiring a second School Nurse to serve scholars at Valor's three campuses (two middle schools and one high school). The School Nurse will provide expertise and oversight of school health services and promotion of health education. Using clinical knowledge and judgment, the School Nurse provides health care to students and staff, performs health screenings, and coordinates referrals. The School Nurse serves as a liaison between school personnel, Metro Health, family, community, and healthcare providers to advocate for health care and a healthy school environment.

Requirements

  • Must have an active license as a Registered Nurse or LPN in the State of Tennessee
  • Understanding of normal growth and development in youth, as well as experience working with students with special needs
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to collaborate with team members
  • Ability and willingness to learn and utilize technology especially as systems are upgraded
  • Ability to learn and upgrade job skills in order to meet changing demands of the position
  • Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism
  • Ability to use independent judgment and demonstrates initiative to act without being asked
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality and stay current with confidentiality requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a school setting is preferred
  • Familiarity with Google Suite systems is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support the network's Primary Nurse with health-related tasks as needed
  • Provide nursing and other generalized health services to Valor students
  • Document, coordinate, and track all health-related procedures occurring at the school
  • Provide precise and accurate communication to families, concerning any health-related issues
  • Working with the Primary Nurse to ensure that student medical forms and student immunizations are up to date, and coordinating with parents to immunizations where necessary
  • Working with Primary Nurse when instances of suspected abuse (medical, physical, sexual, other) are identified
  • Order, inventory, and secure all health-related supplies and medications
  • Other administrative duties, as needed
