About The Position
Under the supervision of the Coordinator I - School Health and Wellness, in collaboration with the Principal, the School Nurse’s major duties include but are not limited to: administering all medications, including injections, to students; monitoring blood sugar levels; maintaining the school’s medicine log; and performing other duties as assigned. The role also involves providing first aid service to students and faculty, attempting to determine the extent of injuries and taking appropriate action, whether it be on-the-spot first aid or referral to another health agency. The School Nurse will provide counseling and referral services for students with special needs, instruct in areas of personal hygiene and disease prevention, requisition supplies and equipment as needed, assume responsibility for inventory and safe storage of all departmental supplies, maintain confidential records on services provided for students and staff, and perform housekeeping duties in the department to ensure high standards of sanitation.
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of and ability to perform catheterizations, tube feedings, respiratory (asthma) treatments, and related duties
- Strong interpersonal skills required
- General knowledge of computers required
- A current RN License required
- Documented successful experience in performing the above procedures required
- Successful experience working with school-aged children
