About The Position

GLOW Academy (Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington) is North Carolina’s only single-gender charter school for girls in grades 6–12. Dedicated to educational equity and excellence, we support a diverse student population with a rigorous curriculum and holistic approach to learning. GLOW Academy is also proud to utilize this position to support Spark Academy, our early childhood development center, which fosters foundational growth for our youngest learners. Spark Academy offers reimagined early care and learning with a safe inspiring indoor and outdoor learning environment, a comprehensive data proven curriculum, collaboration with support agencies with a facility design that includes space for early intervention when needed, and an inclusive approach that includes families in their children’s most important years. GLOW Academy is seeking a compassionate, organized, and skilled School Nurse to promote and maintain the health and wellbeing of students in grades 6–12 as well as children enrolled in SPARK Academy. The School Nurse will work collaboratively with students, families, and staff to create a safe and supportive environment for all.

Requirements

  • Current North Carolina Registered Nurse (RN) license required; BSN preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a school, pediatric, or public health setting.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (current).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with early childhood health care or working in a childcare or preschool setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of school health laws and regulations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to students and staff, including managing chronic conditions, administering medications, and responding to illnesses or injuries.
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) and emergency care plans for students with medical needs.
  • Monitor student immunization records and ensure compliance with state health requirements.
  • Conduct health screenings and maintain accurate, confidential student health records.
  • Provide health education to students, staff, and families on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, mental wellness, and disease prevention.
  • Support Spark Academy staff in managing the health and safety needs of early childhood students, including diapering protocols, developmental screenings, medication management/administration and infection control.
  • When needed, support Spark staff with medical paperwork required for employment and licensure.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community healthcare providers.
  • Maintain health supplies, equipment, and documentation in accordance with school policies and public health guidelines.
  • Participate in crisis response planning and contribute to school-wide safety and wellness initiatives.
