Yes JOB GOAL: Profile of a Natick Educator The school nurse will perform professional nursing duties consistent with Massachusetts guidelines, regulations and statutes governing nursing, school health, and local district policy. The Registered nurse will work collaboratively with other school nurses to assist with the implementation of the school health program as defined by the school district. Outstanding organizational, written and communications skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills are essential for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Nursing preferred
  • Registered Nurse
  • Strong knowledge of child and adolescent development
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare and diagnostics as they relate to children and adolescents
  • Understanding of social-emotional development of students
  • Meet all state and federal guidelines in order to be fully licensed and highly qualified
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice as they relate to student engagement and success.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed.
  • Candidates should have a passion for working with students, families, and colleagues.

Nice To Haves

  • Massachusetts DESE Educator License as a School Nurse
  • NPS will support the right candidate in obtaining DESE licensure
  • Two years of experience in pediatric or community health
  • Previous public school nursing experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Triages students/ staff with illness or injury and provides appropriate intervention and follow-up.
  • Administers medication in compliance with school policy and state regulations.
  • Conducts all state-mandated screening programs for designated grade levels including vision, hearing, postural screening, SBIRT, height and weight.
  • Identifies specific medical needs relating to the particular health status of the student and facilitates appropriate management for the student in the school setting.
  • Serves as a health advocate for the student through communication with parents, health care providers, school and community agencies.
  • Manages immunization compliance per MADPH regulations for all current and newly enrolling students.
  • Develops and maintains, when appropriate, individualized health care plans and 504 plans for students with documented health needs.
  • Educates students, parents, and staff regarding health issues.
