About The Position

UP Education Network is a non-profit school success organization that addresses inequities in public school systems. UP provides differentiated support to historically under resourced schools through a partnership with districts and the state. Since opening its doors in 2010, UP Education Network has focused on taking the lowest-performing schools in Massachusetts and transforming those schools into exceptional learning environments. We manage two campuses in Dorchester, serving over 1,300 students in Boston Public Schools (BPS) from grades pre-K through 8th. Our schools operate with charter-like autonomy while our network provides comprehensive support and management that builds capacity for schools to focus deeply on students. Role: UP Academy’s School Nurse will provide medical care to students. A viable candidate must be a Registered Nurse currently licensed with the Massachusetts Board of Registration. Candidates must possess current certification in CPR and First Aid from a recognized provider. We seek a motivated nurse with good judgment, decision making, and communication skills. Candidates must understand the health needs of children and be able to work in a busy office with minimal medical supervision.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required; Master’s degree is preferred
  • Massachusetts license as a Registered Nurse is required
  • A minimum of 2 years of employment as a RN; required
  • Massachusetts State Department of Education School Nurse Licensure
  • CPR & First Aid Certification
  • Current authorization to work in the United States – A candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children and adolescents in public school/agency/human services setting (Preferred: Experience in support services in a school setting; liaison and case management; high risk, multi-problem children and adolescents)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee student medical needs, including the dispensation of medication
  • Maintain student medical records, including immunizations
  • Review plans for addressing the medical needs of enrolled students
  • Develop and use an active network of referral services to support students and their families in making healthy decisions and seeking medical support and assistance
  • Communicate with families as necessary
  • Work with students on Preventative Health Measures
  • Coordinate vision and hearing screenings
  • Participate in an intensive staff orientation and training for up to four weeks prior to the school year and weekly professional development sessions.
