About The Position

Canton Public Schools is seeking Substitute School Nurses for the 2024-2025 school year. These positions will be district-wide, and the selected candidates will be contacted to fill in for School Nurses who are absent. The role requires practical experience in various health care areas, including managing students with specific health needs and providing routine health care services.

Requirements

• BS in Nursing or related field preferred
• Registered Nurse with current Connecticut Nursing License
• 1 year of school nursing experience preferred
• Knowledge of pediatrics and public health
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and knowledge of community resources
• Ability to perform tasks independently and with minimal direct supervision
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Attention to detail and excellent written and oral communication skills

Nice To Haves

• Experience with diabetics and insulin pumps
• Knowledge of continuous glucose monitors and Glucagon administration
• Experience with G-tube feeds
• Experience with epilepsy and Diastat administration
• Experience with asthma and inhaler/nebulizer administration
• Experience with anaphylaxis and Epi-pen administration
• Familiarity with tracheotomy care, suctioning, replacement, and ventilators

Responsibilities

• Provide routine health care to students
• Administer medications as prescribed
• Monitor student health plans
• Collaborate with school personnel and parents
• Conduct health and wellness education in small groups
• Assist students in identifying health needs and encourage their participation in developing a plan of care
• Provide emergency treatment as needed
• Maintain health records according to documentation standards
