About The Position

Substitute Nursing duties at school sites where needed. Must meet all state licensing requirements. POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, provide health services program for the evaluation, improvement, and protection of the health of pupils and school personnel in accordance with state law and district policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The list of Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented. Contacts parents, paramedics, ambulance, and hospital in emergencies and maintains accompanying records. Conducts screening of vision, hearing, dental, and physical appraisal in accordance with Nevada Revised Statutes. Assumes responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care. Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students. Identifies pupils with health needs that interfere with learning. Disseminates information to students and staff in recognizing and reporting health deviations. Provides information to pupils, parents, and school personnel to plan action for minimizing the health problems of pupils. Serve as a resource person to district staff for health related issues, including screening for special education placement. Arranges for the instruction of school personnel in administering emergency care. Administers first aid in accordance with district policies. Exercises judgment regarding the disposition of pupils who become ill or who are injured at school. Serves as liaison between community agencies and the school. Participates in in-service training programs. Instructs staff on universal isolation procedures annually to insure staff safety from contagious diseases. Assumes other tasks as assigned by Certified School Nurse. This job description does not imply that the functions listed are the only duties to be performed. Also involves effective health office management. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (Position Expectations): Knowledge of basic first aid, CPR/AED, and Universal Precautions. Ability to attend and successfully complete annual medication assistance training and tests. Ability to participate and complete initial and ongoing training and staff development. Ability to prepare, organize, and maintain accurate health records or reports. Ability to interpret health and safety standards. Ability to handle emergency situations without supervision and make sound health care decisions. Ability to learn, explain, and apply procedures. Ability to learn and apply laws, rules, and regulations relating to health activities. Ability to maintain security of confidential information. Ability to learn to use computers and software applications related to the health office. Ability to determine when to act independently and when to refer medical situations to School Nurse and/or administrator. Ability to work cooperatively with School Nurse, employees, students, parents/guardians, and other medical personnel. Ability to recognize and report hazards and apply safe work methods. Possess physical and mental stamina commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.

Requirements

  • Must meet all state licensing requirements.
  • Graduation from an Associate of Nursing Program or a Licensed Practical Nurse Program
  • Current licensee as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certificate from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross. Certification must be maintained for the duration of the assignment. Certification training must be in-person and include a hands-on component. Online only courses will not be accepted.
  • CPR and First Aide Instructor per American Heart Association (completion required upon hire).
  • College transcript or other equivalent.
  • Current license in the state of Nevada or ability to become licensed as a: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN); or, Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Current First Aid certificate as indicated above.
  • A valid driver’s license that allows the applicant/employee to legally operate a motor vehicle in Nevada.
  • Current CPR/First Aid Instructor certificate as indicated above (May complete upon hire).
  • Specific documented evidence of training and experience to satisfy qualifications.
