About The Position

The San Diego Unified School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of School Nurse & Substitute Nurse Pool for the 2024/2025 school year. This recruitment is ongoing and aims to establish a continuous eligibility list for regular full-time, part-time, and temporary assignments. Candidates must hold a valid nursing services credential, possess a Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited university along with a registered nurse (RN) license, or be currently enrolled in a college or university program to attain a nursing services credential. The role of a School Nurse is itinerant, meaning that nurses may be required to travel to multiple school sites to provide health services to students. The responsibilities of a School Nurse include assessing and evaluating the health and developmental status of pupils, designing and implementing individual health maintenance plans, and referring students and their guardians to appropriate community resources for necessary services. School Nurses are also responsible for interpreting medical and nursing findings in relation to the student's individualized education program and making recommendations to the relevant professional personnel. Additionally, they consult with teachers and administrators, conduct in-service training, and participate in the implementation of a comprehensive health instruction curriculum for students. Developing and implementing the health education curriculum is also a key duty of this position.
