About The Position

The School Monitor is responsible for supervising students to maintain proper discipline standards during lunch duty and assisting administrators and teachers with various non-instructional tasks. This role involves overseeing students during lunch and recess/yard duty, as well as performing administrative support functions as requested by teachers and approved by the principal.

Requirements

  • Eighteen (18) years or older
  • Education commensurate with site responsibilities, to be determined by the principal.
  • Must understand written and verbal instructions from supervisor(s).
  • Must have the ability to work independently after instructions are given.
  • Must exhibit ability to make a decision in the supervisor's temporary absence.
  • Must be able to interact positively and be emphatic to students and parents.
  • Must be able to respond positively to supervision and to accept suggestions for improvement.
  • Must have the ability to work in group settings with both adults and children.

  • High School Diploma or equivalency

Responsibilities

  • Oversees students during the lunch period.
  • Supervises students during recess/yard duty.
  • Calls the home of absent students (as requested by teachers with principal approval).
  • Keeps absentee records up-to-date (as requested by teachers with principal approval).
  • Decorates bulletin boards in the classroom (as requested by teachers with principal approval).
  • Keeps student data processing records (Middle/Junior/High) if applicable (as requested by teachers with principal approval).
  • Helps administer first aid to students when necessary (as requested by teachers with principal approval).
  • Operates ditto, mimeograph, laminator, and copying machines and other office machines (as requested by teachers with principal approval).
  • Types tests, reports, and any other materials needed if applicable (as requested by teachers with principal approval).
  • Grades test papers and workbooks (as requested by teachers with principal approval).
  • Updates cumulative folders with principal/teacher approval (as requested by teachers with principal approval).
  • Completes student referrals as needed (as requested by teachers with principal approval).
  • Writes behavior reports with administrative approval (Administrator must co-sign report; copy of action pursued should be received from administrator).
  • Becomes familiar with Student Services Handbook and Personnel Policy Manual.
  • Checks medical records and sends out deficiency notices with principal approval.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the principal.
