About The Position

The School Librarian is responsible for managing the school library and media resources to support teaching and learning. This role involves curating, organizing, and maintaining library materials; assisting students and staff with information needs; promoting literacy and research skills; and integrating technology into the educational environment. The librarian collaborates with teachers to enhance curriculum delivery and fosters a culture of reading and lifelong learning among students.

  • Ability to speak effectively with elementary age students and/or employees in a school environment.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • South Carolina Certification in School Librarian
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
  • Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results will be required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with managing large groups of children at the elementary school level, preferred
  • Experience working in an automated media center and familiarity with a variety of technologies needed to support the school’s technological functions
  • Experience in TV production preferred
  • Experience and Knowledge of current trends in media, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing all library resources and daily operations, including organizing, cataloging, and maintaining books, digital media, and other instructional materials.
  • Oversee circulation, inventory, and budgeting while ensuring the library remains a welcoming, organized, and inclusive learning environment.
  • To support curriculum and instruction by collaborating with teachers to integrate library resources into classroom learning and providing materials aligned with curriculum standards.
  • Play a critical role in promoting literacy by encouraging a love of reading through book talks, reading programs, and events, and by guiding students in selecting appropriate reading materials that suit their interests and reading levels.
  • Teaches essential information and digital literacy skills, including how to find, evaluate, and use information responsibly, as well as instruction on research strategies and proper citation methods.
  • Support the integration of technology into instruction by managing digital tools, assisting with educational technologies, and staying current with emerging trends.
  • Fosters a safe and inclusive environment that supports students of all backgrounds and learning needs, and they enforce library policies that promote respectful and productive use of space.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development, advocates for library programs, and contributes to the school community by serving on committees or in leadership roles where appropriate.
