About The Position

Since 1923, Commonwealth Catholic Charities (CCC)has provided life-changing human services to vulnerable individuals and families throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. CCC offers quality and compassionate human services to all people, especially the most vulnerable, regardless of faith. We are passionate about the work we do in our communities, providing 31 critical services at 11 locations throughout Virginia. SUMMARY: This position is responsible for assisting either refugee or immigrant families with transitioning their children into the public school system.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required with three years of related experience
Valid driver’s license required.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

Introduces, explains, and provides resources to new families utilizing public schools for the first time.
Completes all required intake documentation for new clients.
Initiates outreach to adults in the refugee or immigrant communities.
Assists in enrolling children in school.
Advocates for the educational needs of the clients in all school related matters.
Educates and promotes cross cultural understanding and integration into the community and school system.
Facilitates parent teacher conferences as needed or requested by the school system and participates in Individual Education Plans as requested by parents or the school system.
Makes appropriate referrals for students to school social worker, guidance counselors, or mental health personnel.
Develops strong working relationships with English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teachers and department.
Assists with the recruitment, training and monitoring of tutors and mentors for students in academic and integration need.
Maintain accurate records and complete reports in a timely fashion.
Represents the Agency in the community and workplace in a professional and ethical manner.
Demonstrates sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
Demonstrates strong interpersonal, decision-making, problem-solving, oral, and written skills.
Utilizes a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
