About The Position

The School Leader/Principal at Utah Connections Academy is a dynamic and visionary leader responsible for ensuring that all students receive personalized learning plans through a distance education instructional program. This role involves establishing a positive organizational culture, prioritizing the interests of students and families, and managing faculty and staff while building relationships with key stakeholders. The School Leader oversees school operations, academic outcomes, and compliance with state regulations, all while working from a home office with occasional travel to the district office.

Requirements

  • Active Utah Administrator Endorsement/License
  • Ability to report to the Salt Lake City, UT office as needed, including some late evenings for board meetings
  • Willingness to travel for state testing and assessment events, which may require occasional overnight travel
  • Three years of administrative or leadership experience
  • Strong leadership qualities with a commitment to goal-directed management and accountability
  • Bachelor's and Master's Degree from a regionally accredited college/university
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Customer-focused approach
  • Flexible and able to transition quickly between tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Team player
  • Technologically proficient, especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver the academic success and outcomes of the school based on annual goals.
  • Oversee the implementation of the proven school curriculum and operational protocols.
  • Ensure staff maintain professionalism and customer service, fostering a positive school culture.
  • Create, implement, manage, and monitor the School Improvement Plan in collaboration with staff and Pearson Virtual Schools.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all state reporting.
  • Maintain relationships with the authorizer and Utah's public education department, staying current on policies and legislation.
  • Provide necessary reports to the Department of Education.
  • Communicate effectively with school staff, students, and families.
  • Establish and monitor the school's budget, including staffing and grants.
  • Work closely with Legal Counsel as needed.
  • Implement core operational models with PVS staff.
  • Manage program changes and new software applications with the administrative team.
  • Handle escalated issues from students, parents, or teachers.
  • Oversee Special Education services compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Coordinate state standardized testing processes to ensure high participation rates.
  • Act as the face of the school at events and with the Department of Education.
  • Participate in student recruitment efforts, including presentations and Q&A sessions.
  • Support a robust school community through field trips and virtual activities.
  • Build a high-performing leadership team to oversee staff and school operations.
  • Supervise and evaluate school staff as required by the state.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
