About The Position

Fairfax County Health Department is seeking dedicated Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to improve the health and wellbeing of students in Fairfax County public schools. You will be the leading advocate for public health and well-being and care onsite, contributing to both school and community health. This position implements the School Health Services program under the supervision of a Public Health Nurse in the health department's School Health Services Division. As an LPN you will be responsible for providing basic nursing care services and supervision for students, in a Fairfax County Public School setting. Assesses and determines students' health status and follows appropriate protocols to provide care, screening, and documentation. Monitors and manages students with acute or chronic disease and/or disabilities and documents the care services provided in accordance with standard protocol. Supports individual care needs, including insulin monitoring, and administers medication and treatment in line with health standards and practices. Manages medications, routine school health room activities and updates student health records daily. Assists in the monitoring and updating of student' care plans. Compiles and submits health room statistics and reports using computer data entry skills. Responds to medical emergencies and performs CPR and first aid. Maintains current BLS certification and licensing requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • Two years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse or related experience in a public health/community health setting.
  • Possession of current license or multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Virginia.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (Required within 30 days).
  • AED Certification (Required within 60 days).
  • CPR Certification (Required within 60 days).
