About The Position

The Exceptional Children (EC) School Health Assistant provides routine health services to exceptional students as directed by medical professionals via the school nurse. The role involves both direct and indirect supervision from the school nurse and classroom teacher, ensuring that students receive the necessary support for their health and educational needs.

Requirements

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license renewed per NC requirements.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • CNA II preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the delivery of special services for students, including tube feeding, catheterization, toileting, changing diapers, lifting, pushing wheelchairs, and using other adapted equipment.
  • Aids students who are health impaired, wheelchair-bound, or experience medical emergencies such as seizures.
  • Performs a wide range of tasks to support the teacher, meet the needs of students, and ensure quality instruction.
  • Assists with academic and behavioral supports under the supervision of the special education teacher.
  • Monitors the safety and well-being of students and encourages self-esteem.
  • Maintains discipline in the classroom and assists with crisis prevention.
  • Reinforces and clarifies instructions to assist students with learning.
  • Maintains standardized records and documentation concerning the progress of students.
  • Participates in staff development as directed.
  • Sets up and maintains various equipment used in the classroom.
