As a representative of the school, the School Health Assistant must present a professional, courteous, and friendly attitude when interacting with students, parents, and staff. This position requires the School Health Assistant to remain calm and poised in stressful situations and work toward solutions and possibilities. The School Health Assistant maintains confidentiality and uses discretion in all aspects of communication. The School Health Assistant strives to enhance the programs and experience for all staff and students at High Point Academy by supporting the overall health of our students.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Ability to document steps taken to support student health using a computer system
  • Ability to communicate with families about student health needs
  • Ability to take direction and follow instructions from a supervisor
  • Willingness to reflect and grow as a professional and team member.

Nice To Haves

  • CNA Certification
  • 2+ years of experience working with children
  • CPR certified and First Aid Certified

Responsibilities

  • At the direction of the School Nurse and Building Leader provide basic first aid to students with injuries at school
  • Create a joyful and supportive space for students when they are in need of health support.
  • Hold students accountable for getting back to learning as soon as they are able to.
  • Follow school protocols for gathering information and writing incident reports.
  • Maintains accurate, timely and organized health records.
  • Connecting with families and partnering in problem solving around medication and health at school.
  • Support in scheduling and maintaining up to date student screening and health related documents.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community.
  • Keep records and information secure and confidential for all students.
  • Provide consistent supervision and support to students at duty posts.
  • Develops a cooperative partnership based on mutual respect with colleagues and students.
  • Participates in all required training with the team, Director, and teachers to provide consistent school wide support.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to approved communication pathways.
  • Participates in student focused meetings/data meetings to provide updates/information.
  • Ability to multitask, self-monitor multiple projects, and remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
