About The Position

The School Driver at Stockton Educational Center is responsible for the safe transportation of students, including those with special needs. This role involves monitoring and operating school vehicles, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and providing assistance to students and Transportation Support Professionals during daily routes.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License.
  • Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR Certificate within the first 3 months of employment.
  • Must be able to pass a live scan background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to graduation from high school and experience with special needs students is preferred.
  • Prior professional driving experience with special need clients.
  • An understanding of California vehicle code, education code and board policies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine vehicle monitoring and provide assistance to special needs students and Transportation Support Professionals during daily transportation routes.
  • Ensure the safe loading and unloading of students, including the operation of specialized equipment such as wheelchair lifts, tie-downs, and seat belts.
  • Assist in maintaining hygienic standards on the vehicle by cleaning and sanitizing seats, belts, floors, and other areas as needed.
  • Intervene to prevent or de-escalate student behavior issues during transport, ensuring the safety of all passengers.
  • Enforce SEC policies and procedures as directed by the Transportation Director, maintaining order and discipline on vehicles and at pick-up/drop-off stops.
  • Participate in mandated meetings and training programs related to first aid, safety, emergency procedures, and SEC protocols.
  • Collaborate with the Transportation Support Professional to assist with emergency evacuation procedures and operate a two-way radio system.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with Transportation Support Professionals, school staff, parents, and students.
  • Complete incident reports and document any injuries or issues that occur during transport.

Benefits

  • Compensation of $18.00 - $25.00 per hour depending on experience.
