About The Position

In accordance with The King’s Daughters’ School’s Vision of improving lives of individuals with developmental disabilities through caring, goal oriented service by dedicated staff in a safe, warm learning environment, the School Custodian is responsible for the appearance and cleanliness of the physical facilities of KDS as assigned. The School Custodian directly reports to the Maintenance Director but may take direction from the Senior Director of Operations as needed. The School Custodian is scheduled to work based on the needs required of the position, not to exceed 40 hours per week. Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess a High School diploma or its equivalent with proof of education prior to hire.
  • Knowledge of Disabilities and the organization’s mission
  • Ability to: Organize tasks and workload.
  • Think and act quickly in the event of an emergency.
  • Accept responsibility and use good judgment.
  • Deal tactfully with co-workers, clients and the general public.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing, with all individuals associated with KDS.
  • Kneel, bend and clean on knees; perform a therapeutic hold that requires kneeling/sitting on knees for up to 15 minutes; holding an individual for 15 minutes; move furniture and lift items that weigh at least 40 lbs.; stock shelves which includes being able to lift items over your head and stack them onto shelves; mopping, sweeping, and moving chairs, tables and appliances.
  • Be present at scheduled times and dressed according to policy guidelines.
  • This position may require use of KDS vehicles and occasionally personal vehicles on KDS business (non-transporting) and therefore requires a valid class D driver’s license.
  • Successful completion of all pre-employment background screenings
  • Upon hire, complete certification training for CPR/First Aid and Handle With Care behavior modification training.
  • Provide evidence of a current TB Skin Test upon hire and prior to first day of employment.
  • Be in good health and free of mental and/or physical limitations which would interfere in dealing appropriately with the client’s handicapping conditions and behavior disorders.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous custodial experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • On a daily basis maintains all bathrooms, school areas, gymnasium, business office, parks and other assigned properties resulting in areas that appear clean, neat and orderly at all times.
  • Proactively monitor and evaluate all facilities with the outcome in mind to ensure that KDS facilities are always shown in the best light.
  • Maintain cleanliness of floors that includes sweeping, vacuuming and mopping.
  • Empty trash, clean windows, dust, sweep, and mop all assigned areas on an as needed basis.
  • Report any issues to Maintenance Director through online reporting system that involve physical facilities (missing baseboard, cracked window, etc)
  • Performs other essential and marginal job functions as assigned.
