About The Position

Under the general supervision of a law enforcement officer, performs work of assisting school children and other pedestrian traffic with safe crossing public streets at designated intersections going to and returning from school.

Requirements

• A GED or a standard high school diploma from a GaDOE-approved and accredited institution is required.
• Incumbents are expected to maintain an alert attitude to prevent hazardous traffic situations.
• Sufficient strength, vision, hearing, stamina and agility to perform all duties on a regular basis without assistance, including the presence of inclement weather.
• Reliable transportation is required.

Responsibilities

• Ability to learn basic traffic laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to school zones.
• Direct and regulate the flow of traffic at school crossings or within a reduced speed school zone.
• Stop vehicle traffic on roadways near schools to allow children to cross safely. Assist children to safely cross public streets.
• Ability to work out-of-doors in a wide variety of weather conditions.
• Ability to maintain discipline, develop positive relationships and command respect among school children.
• Assist school bus traffic in and out of the school parking lots.
• Ability to exercise mature judgment in emergencies.
• Performs other duties as necessary for the effectivness of the organization.
