About The Position

What you will be doing: Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program of guidance for the school assigned, including counseling services. Provide a proactive, developmental guidance program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development. Teach school developmental guidance curriculum to students. Help teachers incorporate guidance-related information into existing curriculum. Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop educational plans and career awareness. Counsel individuals and small groups about their concerns. Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant personnel to enhance their work with students. Work with school personnel and district residents to obtain resources for students. Use an effective referral process to help students and others access special programs and services. Participate in planning and evaluation of the campus standardized testing program. Interpret test and other appraisal results appropriately. Plan school guidance and counseling programs to ensure they meet identified needs. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the guidance program and make changes based on findings. Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and other documents. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and board policy in the guidance and counseling area. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors. Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents. Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment. Report to work in a timely manner according to the assigned schedule. Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor or other administrators that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in guidance and counseling.
  • Valid Texas counseling certificate.
  • Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience preferred.
