PURPOSE OF POSITION: A School Counselor at Catholic Charities: Provide individual and/or group counseling for students, aligned with the Multi-Tiered System of Support. Provide coordination, consultation, referral and informational services to staff, parents, and students, by attending grade level meetings as needed. Plan and facilitate the delivery of the school’s social-emotional learning curriculum. Collaborative problem-solving with students, teachers, parents, and administrators. Consult and collaborate with the special education or school resource teacher regarding necessary student behavioral or emotional supports. Act as an advocate for students. Serve as a resource for ideas and strategies that promote student achievement and overall success within the classroom setting and beyond. Gather, interpret, and evaluate data for program modification and interventions, as needed. Plan and present professional development to staff on topics related to youth and family mental health. Plan and present parent presentations on topics related to youth and family mental health. Participate in parent-teacher conferences for academic and behavioral issues, when appropriate. Select, administer, and interpret various tests such as rating scales and behavioral/academic screeners commensurate with testing qualification level to provide additional information pertaining to academic/emotional needs. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES Perform appropriate case management and documentation based upon accepted standards, program policies and license requirements. Collaborate with outside therapists, groups, and individuals, when needed. Establish and maintain relationships with community and/or school district agents, when needed. Participate meaningfully in clinical and agency supervision, consultation, and staff training. Maintain requirements for initial or continued professional licensure. Support, promote, and adhere to Catholic Charities’ vision, mission, values, and Code of Ethics. Reflect Catholic Charities’ commitment to treating all persons with dignity and respect. Maintain confidentiality of students, parents, staff, and agency information as per the National Code of Ethics, according to the license under which the counselor is working.
